2014 Curtin Ignition Opening Keynote Speaker
On Sunday I had the privilege of being the opening keynote speaker for this years Curtin Ignition program. The buzz in the room was electric.
Ignition is five and a half day intensive program held annually in Perth which builds entrepreneurs by preparing delegates for taking their idea to the business world.
Run by the Curtin Centre for Entrepreneurship, it is based on the successful Ignite program managed and delivered by the University of Cambridge Judge Business School’s Centre for Entrepreneurial Learning (CfEL).
Later this week, I get to hear some of the participant’s journey when I take part in the one-on-clinics and sit on the ‘pitch panels’. What I love about helping out is getting inspired by the ideas, energy and enthusiasm as many of those attending the program go on to become highly successful entrepreneurs.
I can remember when I was 17 and being one of only two women to be selected for a similar program (only ours ran over weeks). I was the youngest in the group. For me, one of the most exciting moments was the first weekend launching the program as we were put up in a motel and I had my own room and my own double bed. It was a first for me – both the room and the bed. I felt both grownup and overawed all at the same time. It was delightful to see the same blend of excitement and trepidation on the faces of the Ignition delegates. I’m so proud to be connected to the program.
