Community Contribution

There can be no vulnerability without risk; there can be no community without vulnerability; there can be no peace, and ultimately no life, without community.
M. Scott Peck

Living in communities can be hard – coping with diverse personalities, opinions and expectations; however it is even harder to be alone.  What’s the point of emotional safety if it means we live friendless?

Tracey McGrath International has a 30 year history of supporting charitable organisations both financially and through active volunteering.

In 2017, TMI is supporting:

  • Manna Inc and
  • Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia

Manna Inc – Feeding the homeless

Manna provides meals to the homeless through it’s Hot ‘n’ Healthy Meals Program which has grown to be Perth’s largest humanitarian food outlet of meals to the homeless and disadvantaged. Manna serves soup, a main meal (with cooked vegies/salad), plus a dessert and a drink six days a week (Sunday through Friday).   The meals are prepared fresh every morning and handed out free to the Homeless at 1:30pm in the park at Weld Square near the city.   This is all provided with no expectation from the ‘streeties’ that they have to contribute financially

Huge praise to the staff and volunteers at Manna Inc – having helped to cook (well … chop and do dishes) and then deliver the food to Weld Square I can tell you they work hard and do a fantastic job!

Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia

Dr. Catherine Hamlin and the Addis Ababa Fistula Hospital are helping to expand care to women who suffer from obstetric fistula, an injury of childbirth affecting two million women worldwide.

A small donation on your part can make a huge, huge difference.  Watch the video to understand how and why.

Lifeline Australia

Lifeline provides access to crisis support, suicide prevention and mental health support services, Call 13 11 14

Consider becoming a volunteer.  It takes a lot of dedicated people to provide Lifeline’s telephone crisis support services 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, across Australia. Lifeline relies on over 11,000 Volunteers nation wide to support Lifeline’s crisis support line, help raise funds, work in retail outlets, or conduct administrative duties.  By volunteering your time and skills to Lifeline you can help people in crisis.

Holyoake

Holyoake is a non-profit, community-based leading provider of addiction counselling and support services in Western Australia.

Each year Holyoake helps more than 6,500 people by providing practical programs to address peoples’ alcohol and drug abuse issues, guiding people through challenging times and into a better future.  This was a wonderful volunteer experience that I enjoyed for many years.  Practical, inspiring and transformational for me as well as those attending the programs.

Here is a video of only one of Holyoake’s many programs.

Adult Literacy

As a firm believer in education having the power to transform lives, I had a wonderful decade teaching adult literacy.  LOL.  As a result of one of my student’s needs I learnt about ‘rigging’ (How to load a crane).  So proud when he achieved the qualification.

Western Australia Adult Literacy Council – WAALC- is celebrating 25 years.
